Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, I take pleasure to invite you to the 51st European Congress of the Regional Association International, to be held in Barcelona (Spain) from August 30 to September 3, 2011. The main theme of the ERSA 2011 conference is New challenges for European Regions and Urban Areas in a Globalised World, and we are expecting a large number of regional scientists and practitioners to attend this exciting meeting where a list of topics on regional and urban issues will be discussed.
Barcelona, Catalonia and Spain have a long tradition in organizing Regional Science events. This strong involvement is an example of our interest in territory and space as key variables in influencing economic analysis. Despite the huge and increasing importance of globalization, the solution to our day-to-day problems lies in considering the differential characteristics of each area, region, city, and neighbourhood.
The conference is co-organized by the Spanish and Catalan Regional Science Associations and the Reference Network for Research in Applied Economics (XREAP) and will be hosted in one of the world’s leading cities for leisure and culture.
We are preparing an attractive conference, with top academics and high quality presentations, parallel sessions, round tables and special sessions: an essential event for those who wish to keep up to date with developments in regional science.
We encourage you to send your abstracts and papers and to visit our conference web site in the coming months as we get ready for ERSA-BCN2011. You can still propose special sessions writing an email to the LOC Coordinator,Vicente Royuela (vroyuela@ub.edu), before the 10th of January.
