Technical Visits

Preliminary programme


The Bratislava Local Organising Committee has prepared for you a set of interesting technical visits to complement the knowledge of the Congress regarding the Bratislava region.

The technical visit programme is open to all the registered Congress participants and accompanying persons.

The duration of each technical visit is around 2-3 hours.

Time: Wednesday 22 August 2012, afternoon (to be confirmed)
 The Local Organising Committee reserves the right to make changes the below programme if necessary.

Upon registration, you will have the choice between the following visits:

  • Gabčíkovo hydroelectric dam

This visit is aimed at the Gabčíkovo Dam, one of the largest power plants on the Danube River. 
During the visit, the participants will be invited to listen to a lecture about the construction and effects in the operation of the hydroelectric dam.


  • Urban architecture of the capital - Bratislava

During a walking city tour of Bratislava downtown, the participants will get acquainted with the current situation, history and philosophy of an urban development and architecture of Bratislava.


  • Slovenský Grob – “The village as a host”

Slovenský Grob is known for its breeding and the sale of geese and ducks. 
- It received a European prize "Village renewal of the Year" based on the entrepreneurship and common strategy development. The participants will learn all about this success story of how a village with no special advantage has turned into a rich village with something to offer and ways to expand. After the visit, the participants will have opportunity to stay for a dinner and taste local specialties if they wish too. More details will be given in due time.


  • Visit of the Automotive Plant - Volkswagen

After the establishment of the Slovak Republic in 1992, the first significant foreign investment was the arrival of Volkswagen in the suburbs of Bratislava.
The participants will have the opportunity to visit the different parts of the factory, production lines, as well as be acquainted to the overall system and philosophy of the work organization of Volkswagen.


  • Bratislava Forest Park

The participants will discover the magnificent Bratislava Forest Park located on the slopes of the Small Carpathian hills enabling a wide range of hiking opportunities within the city itself and in the surrounding area. 
The visit is aimed to learn more on the role of the city in improving urban environment – case study of Bratislava. They will also able to understand and see other similar initiatives enhancing urban environment as well as the quality of life in the city. Forested hillsides comprise almost one quarter of the city’s area.
