International Summer Conference in Regional Science

About 250 regional scientists and regional planners from Switzerland, Austria and Germany are members of the “Gesellschaft für Regionalforschung” (GfR), the German Speaking Section of RSAI and ERSA, founded in 1963. The GfR organises two small meetings per year: the winter meeting taking place in the Austrian Alpes for a week each February and the summer conference which we usually organize together with other institutions or organizations (International Summer Conference of Regional Science). Our aim is to establish the Summer conference as a small international event with a high quality standard. Last year’s conference in Kiel “Modelling the Spatial Economy” was a great success. This year’s first issue of the Annals of Regional Science is a special issue on one of our summer conferences. This year we shall meet in Lübeck’s ancient Hanse city close to Hamburg from 19th to 20th June 2009 (see the call-for-paper on our homepage: http://gfr.ersa.org). Furthermore, we are regularly invited by the Slovak section to jointly organise the biennial Central European Conference in Regional Science. As a result of one of our initiatives, the Federal Statistic Office is currently preparing the calculation of regional prices in Germany.
As an incentive for young scientists to present their work at the GfR meetings and at the ERSA conference, we assign the “Edwin-von-Böventer” Award to a young scientist. In addition, we financially support the winner’s participation in an ERSA conference.
Our peer reviewed Journal “Review of Regional Research/Jahrbuch für Regionalwissenschaften" which is published by Springer was founded in 1980 (http://www.springer.com/economics/regional+science/journal/10037). It is open to all fields of research in regional science. A subscription at a discount price is available via the GfR (secretariat@gfr.ersa.org).
