PREPARE offers an integrated attempt to prepare PhD students and young researchers for an academic career in regional science. It combines a number of elements.
Summer Institutes
The main element of PREPARE is the summer institute. This ten-day event is held in Groningen, The Netherlands in 2006, in Bratislava, Slovak Republic in 2007, in Pecs, Hungary in 2008, and in Volos, Greece in 2009.Every summer institute includes the following elements:
- advanced instructions on a current topic in regional science
- presentation and discussion of the research of participants
- issues of how to build a scientific career
Conference Participation
Participants of a PREPARE summer institute will be invited to the big and well regarded ERSA congress in the following year. In a special PREPARE session they will have the opportunity to present their research to the top level experts in Europe. Ideally, participants will demonstrate their competence in the material they learned by participating in the summer institute.
Electronic Resources
The knowledge accumulated during the events of PREPARE and the networks that have developed are documented in and supported by electronic media like web pages and discussion forums. For more information go to the resources of the respective event in activities.
