Overview of the program (Parts 1 & 2)
Notice that the first half of the summer school will be located in Stockholm, and the second half in Jönköping.
Travel & Accommodation
Accommodation, meals and transfer from Stockholm to Jönköping will be covered by the summer school.

Venues
- Stockholm: You should go from the airport to the City centre. By train go to Stockholm Central Station. On the webpage of the hotel Skepparholmen there are excellent indications on how to reach the venue.
- Jönköping: Södra Vätterbygdens Folkhögskola (SVF) sitting on the hights of Jonkoping at the address Mångatan 10, 554 39 JÖNKÖPING phone +46 36 30 69 00. Approx 15 minutes’ walk from JIBS.
The meeting point is at the hotel Skepparholmen (the first venue).
After the summer school ends in Jönköping, participants organise their trip back themselves.

Important NEW information!
NEW INFORMATION:
- There are two software packages that the participants shall download in advance:
1) A test version of GAMS, which can be found here
2) The R package, to be found here - In addition, the FEAR package to be found here and the package Frontier
shall be installed.
- Participants should bring their laptop to the Summer School. If that is not possible, please notify Caroline Theodor.
- Participants need to send a final version of their presentation/paper via email to Caroline Theodor by July 12th, 2010.

Call for participants in the 23rd ERSA Summer School 2010
Deadline for the application is March 10th 2010.
The European Regional Science Association is offering the opportunity to participate in the 23rd ERSA Summer School that will be held August 10th - August 19th 2010 both in Stockholm and Jönköping, Sweden. The event is funded by the European Investment Bank Luxembourg, the Center for Transport Studies at KTH in Stockholm, and Jönköping University.
GOAL
The goal of the 23rd ERSA Summer School is to provide PhD-students and young researchers with
• advanced training in various fields related to productivity and financing of regional infrastructure
• an opportunity to present and discuss own research,
• skills and knowledge to advance their careers as researchers.
FORMAT
In the Summer School you can expect ten highly focused and intense days of advanced training, student presentations and discussion, and discussion of career strategies. Two excursions, one in Stockholm, and one in Jönköping, will complete the unique experience of this Summer School. The graduation dinner will be held in combination with a boat trip on the lake Vättern.
TOPIC
The Summer School will be focused on the issues of Productivity and Financing of Regional Infrastructure. In a format of combined lectures and hands on training provided by top-level experts, we will deal with the following areas in the advanced training component:
• Measuring productivity effects of regional infrastructure investment,
• Financing infrastructure investment,
• Spatial Econometrics,
• Cost Benefit Analysis,
• Spatial Computable General Equilibrium Models,
• Road pricing,
• Private-Public Partnerships.

LANGUAGE
The Summer School will be held entirely in English.
TIME TABLE
Participants are expected to arrive at the venue of the Summer School in Stockholm, Sweden, on Tuesday, August 10th, for the opening event at 2pm. The Summer School will close on Thursday, August 19th at 4pm. Note that the 50th ERSA congress in Jönköping will start on the evening of August, 19th. Participants are expected to be available for the full period of the Summer School. As part of the Summer School, every participant is expected to give a presentation of his/her research.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
ERSA is looking for participants with the following characteristics:
• doctoral / PhD students or junior researchers with less than 10 years experience;
• research experience in one or more of the topics of the Summer School;
• serious intentions for entering a research career;
Among participants fulfilling these criteria preference will be given to women and participants from Central and East-European countries. Nevertheless, the call for participation is open to all nationalities.
SELECTION OF PARTICIPANTS
Participants will be selected by the local organizing committee primarily according to the above mentioned criteria. In addition to these criteria, the organizers will look for an international mix of participants. The number of participants is limited to 30.
COSTS
A registration fee of around EUR 100 shall be paid to ERSA via a debit note that will be sent to you by email. The costs of the programme and of local accommodation of participants will be covered by the Summer School.
The travel expenses from their home countries to Sweden and back have to be covered by the participants.
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES
Participants in the Summer School in 2010 are expected to participate in a workshop in August 2011 that will be held durind the 2011 ERSA congress in Barcelona.
HOW TO APPLY?
First, please prepare one document in PDF format that includes the following information:
- 1. first and last name
- 2. date of diploma giving access to doctoral studies in the country in which the diploma was obtained,
- 3. current status and affiliation,
- 4. motivation letter,
- 5. a scientific CV,
- 6. a short description of previous and current research work,
- 7. a short description of career plans,
- 8. name and email address of doctoral / PhD supervisor,
- 9. name and address of two researchers who are willing to write a letter of recommendation (may include the doctoral / PhD supervisor),
- 10. title and abstract of the intended presentation.
